May 13: Amid the even stricter restrictions, the Rajasthan government has decided to allow garment manufacturing to continue its operations during its 15-day long lockdown.

Several garment industry workers have left their jobs for many reasons; either to celebrate Eid with family, either to return to their respective homes amid crisis, or due to the arising pandemic fears as the cases have sharply surged in the state.

Meanwhile, understanding the situation these workers are under, the state government has been working on facilitating an e-pass system in order to enable the workers to travel to and from work and continue their jobs without any problem. It also said that the government is working to make the e-pass generation process even more efficient than previous year.

ET Bureau reported, Apparel Park Manufacturers Association secretary and exporter Hero Ravjani said, “So far, we have not seen any disruption. The government’s decision to keep running the industry is a huge relief. With limited staff, we can manage 15 days but if it goes beyond that and we don’t have enough labour, it will start to have an impact.”

As reported by The Economic Times, former Confederation of Indian Industry Rajasthan president, Dileep Baid said, “The fear of the fast-spreading pandemic has also been a reason for many workers living nearby areas of the industrial areas not reporting to duty. Every value chain of production requires specially skilled workers. If we miss workers engaged for one component, the whole process gets disturbed.”
