January: Indian textiles ministry of the Indian government has recently released Year End Review for the year 2020. It also told that India became the second largest personal protective equipment manufacturer in the world. A few of the highlights of this Year End Review are as follows: National Technical Textiles Mission has been approved with a total outlay of Rs. 1,480 crore. It has also launched the logo and brand name of Kasturi Cotton India.

The ministry in its End Year Review 2020 quoted, “With the development of a new industry valuing ₹7,000 crore with 1100 PPE manufacturers producing a peak of 4.5 lakh units per day, India becomes second largest PPE manufacturer in the world.” The review also added, “The textile industry occupies an important position in our country. Indian textile sector is the sixth largest exporter of textiles and apparels in the world. Its share in mercantile exports is 12 per cent and is the second largest employment generator after agriculture.”

Anti-dumping duty was also removed on the purified terephthalic acid and acrylic fibre in the year 2020. They were on-boarded Government-e-Market in order to provide a wider market for handloom weavers, artisans or producers. To view or read the full Year End Review, Click here
