March 10: Earlier on Monday, Google announced to celebrate International Women’s Day being committing to support 1 million rural women entrepreneurs all across India as part of their Women Will programme.

The same was announced via a virtual event that took place on March 8 as Google shared that their Women Will platform will offer community support, mentorship, and accelerator programmers for the rural businesswomen in India. This was reported by ET Tech.

At the event, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani expressed her opinion in support of the move and initiative regarding women’s development.

Other than the Women Will programme, Google further shared that their philanthropic arm Google.org will award a grant of $500,000 to the Nasscom Foundation.

This grant will be used for supporting the 100,000 women working in the agriculture field by offering them proper training and financial literacy across 6 states namely Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana. Alongside, they will be offering counselling for the women on topics like relationships.

“The success of the Internet Saathi program which Google previously ran in India has shown how digital access and digital literacy can help women to reach their full potential and improve their livelihoods. When women have equal access to opportunity, we all benefit from their perspectives, creativity and expertise, and this is true all over the world. Women are almost twice as likely to lose their jobs during the pandemic and an estimated 20 million girls are at risk of not returning to school. We have the opportunity to build a future that is more equal and more inclusive- and we must take it.” said Alphabet chief executive Sundar Pichai, ET Tech reported.
