January: By preserving the historic Koirengei in Imphal, Manipur is planning to develop war tourism in its state. Koirengai is an old airfield in the northeast state. In order to make this happen, the state government is working on acquiring the airport from the Ministry of Defence.

Divulging the details, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the state government is working to relocate the units of the 57 Mountain Division of the Indian army to another site. Currently, they are deployed in Koirengei airfield. This paves the way to set-up the war tourism site as planned by the Manipur Tourism on the location.

Along with the war tourism, the plan includes a shopping mall and government quarters around the tourism site. Singh tweeted over the same citing that the government is planning to build war memorial sites as Manipur is now on the war tourism map. Here, have a look at the tweet:

He in his tweet said that it was important to develop these war tourism sites in order to provide a better travel and knowledge experience to the war tourists. As Manipur has been introduced in the War Tourism map, it enables several British and Japanese tourist to flow in to visit these tourism sites.
