Indira Gandhi International Airport located in Delhi has become first Level 4+ (Transition) accredited airport of Asia Pacific under the Airport Accreditation program of ACI. The Delhi airport has undoubtedly made history by receiving accreditation for sustainability. The same was informed by the GMR group, the one who operates and owns the airport. ACI made the announcement recently during its Europe annual assembly.

Congress claimed that the airport is now setting its climate goals in alignment with the ambition of the Paris Agreement. In 2016, the Delhi airport achieved Level 3+, Neutrality making it the first Carbon Neutral Airport in the Asia Pacific region. A spokesperson from Delhi International Airport Limited claimed.

Talking about the latest achievement, Director General of ACI Asia Pacific Stefano Baronci stated that IGI Airport is raising the bar in Asia-Pacific as it became the world’s first airport to obtain such important accreditation.

Reportedly, ACI has added two new levels after revising the programmes thoroughly. The new levels are; Level 4 (Transformation) and Level 4+ (Transition). However, these levels have been introduced to in line with the Paris Agreement. Also, they aim to control the global average temperature so that it does not exceed 1.5 degree Celsius.
