Fashion designer Anita Dongre sets up INR 1.5 crore medical fund for self-employed artisans

During these struggling times of coronavirus people and companies from all walks of life are contributing to the best of their capabilities to help those in need. While some of the major luxury brands like Gucci, Chanel, etc. are directing all their efforts to produce the essential equipment to fight the corona pandemic like ventilators, hand sanitizers, scrubs and face masks, in their factories which once saw large scale production of affluent clothes and accessories.

Indian fashion designers are too taking the stride to lend a helping hand to the ones in need and the hardest hit segment due to the prevailing COVID-19. Anita Dongre, the celebrated fashion designer of the country announced INR 1.5 crore medical fund for the craftsmen and self-employed artisans.

The designer claimed on her Instagram “A lot has changed in the last few days… Among the people who are likely to be most affected by these changes are the small vendors and self-employed artisans who contribute to the work you love and admire.” “Considering the swiftness of the crisis, we recognize that not many of them will have resources to cover a potential medical emergency. It is for this reason that the Anita Dongre Foundation has decided to set up a dedicated fund of Rs 15 million, to support any medical treatments arising during these troubling times,”

In addition to this, the designer notified that all her direct employees have medical insurance and would be able to access the medical fund in case of further requirements.

Apart from her, other fashion designers like Gaurav Gupta, Arpita Mehta, Rhea Pillai Rastogi are following the suit. They are well aware of the responsibility they have during the outbreak of coronavirus and do not hesitate in coming forward for their staff and employees, assuring that their daily supply of essentials is maintained and providing them with the necessary salary. Other than that, the designers are also taking the responsibility of educating their employees and staff about the corona-outbreak and necessary measures to be taken to prevent it.
