March 15: The gates of the Kedarnath temple will be reopening for the devotees on May 17. This information was bestowed by a spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board earlier on Thursday.

The famous temple will be opening for its devotees at 5 am on May 17. Lord Shiva’s idol will be moved out of its winter abode at Omkareshwar temple at Ukhimath on May 14.

The portals of the Kedarnath temple was closed on November 16 last year. Other than this, it will be a matter of great happiness as the Badrinath temple is also supposed to be reopening on May 18. Read our full coverage on the Badrinath temple latest news here:

Soon after the 4 dhams will open for the devotees, the Char Dham yatra will also begin. Badrinath is one of these four abodes. Previously, when the reopening dates of the Badrinath temple were announced, there wasn’t any news regarding the reopening of the Kedarnath temple. The Char Dhams are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri.

The other two, Gangotri and Yamunotri will reopen on May 14. These four shrines remain close for six months every year during the time when they are snowbound and the portals reopen during April and May months for the pilgrims who wait eagerly for their reopening.

However, there is still no information about how the darshans will be conducted amid the Covid-19 threat.
