March 15: Coimbatore district administration has taken a vital step to stop the further spread of the novel coronavirus disease as it made it mandatory for any passenger coming from Kerala via any mode; train, flights, or road, to get an e-pass and also they will have to produce a negative Covid-19 test report.

The district authorities claimed that the step is initiated to ensure that the infected citizens from Kerala do not enter the district and put others on the radar of the disease. This will further discourage non-essential travel between the two neighbouring states.

According to the latest reports, the health and revenue department has set-up as many as 13 check posts across the Coimbatore-Kerala border in order to keep track on every vehicle for the e-passes and check their negative coronavirus certificates. The reports also suggest that anyone who fails to meet the criteria mentioned by the district administration will be asked to travel back.

Referring to the decision, Dr G Ramesh Kumar, the Deputy Director of Public Health stated that the Coimbatore Corporation has been asked to set-up the check posts at the Coimbatore Junction and Podanur railway stations. These check posts will be responsible to check all arrivals in the state coming from Kerala-originating trains for their e-passes and reports, based on which they will either be sent back, asked to submit the samples again or sent for the institutional quarantine.

The Deputy Director also stated that since there are no direct flights from Kerala to the district, therefore, all passengers in the Mumbai flights will be required to arrive with a negative Covid-19 report and an e-pass too. He further clarified that the passengers arriving with a negative test will again be tested once they arrive in the district and will be sent for a 7-days home quarantine.
