May 10: Kashmir being one of the hottest tourism spots for tourists across the nation, is one among the hard-hit spots likewise the tourism industry of the whole country. The tourism in the state is unfortunately affected to another low by the brutal second wave of the novel coronavirus even after the industry showed revival signs soon after October last year.

After witnessing an improvement in the footfall of last year’s winter tourism slot, the industry expected a rise in the count during this year’s summer, however, the covid second wave again put the industry into the same yet worst pit as last year. The growth in the tourism sector of Kashmir was also led by one of the Covid trends promoting local or domestic tourism in place of flying abroad for a vacation getaway.

The state hospitality industry was keen on opening several other tourism hotspots in order to attract visitors to the state, given this, a Tulip Garden was also set up in Srinagar back in March, aiming to attract tourism to the valley.

The report also suggests that the state witnessed a surge in the demand for hotels from January to March as the stakeholders expected the industry to walk on the path of revival.

Kashmir is indeed going to face the consequences of Covid-19 for a longer time, especially its tourism sector. The majority of the state’s revenue is earned by the tourism industry, however now hit by the Covid-19 wave yet again, the tourism industry will undergo a major loss threatening direct employment as well at the same time.
