Kashmir Tulip Festival, March 30: Weeks after decorating Udhampur’s Highland Park with 9000 tulips, Kashmir is all set to host its famous Tulip Festival beginning from April 3 in order to celebrate the arrival of the spring season and also to promote tourism in the state.

While bestowing the festival’s information, Ideel Saleem serving as the Deputy Director, Tourism and Publicity mentioned that several national, as well as local artists, will be performing at the musical evenings during the festival. He also said that 25 stalls have been dedicated to display and promote Kashmir’s rich culture, traditions, crafts and cuisines.

This will be a 6-day festival that will witness cultural activities aiming to introduce the rich and traditional practices of the valley to the visitors. As stated by an official aware of the development, the festival will be inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Currently, sound and lighting systems are under process for the 6-day event near the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre. To light up the occasion, the Hari Parbat Fort will be illuminated. Another tourism department official has said that this event will act as an opportunity to display the diverse culture and cuisine of the valley. Other than this, there will also be a live exhibition of handicraft and handloom products for the whole day.

Further, he said, “All arrangements are in place for the festival and we are looking forward to it.” The deputy director also quoted, “Houseboat is an icon of tourism and is one of the main attractions of the visitors to the valley. The festival will showcase the houseboats at the famous Dal Lake and promote them,”

Other than this tulip festival, the department of tourism is also planning to organise a houseboat festival in the month of May.
