March 16: Aiming to attract tourist with the lush green and beautiful gardens of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Udhampur’s Highland Park in the Kud area has been decorated with 9000 tulip plants in 5 different colours bedded across the land.

In its first move, the step was initiated in the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden located in Srinagar. The step will help attract locals as well as tourists and nature lovers to the UT. The visitors will be having no time boundaries neither will a fee be charged for them in order to visit the gardens.

Impressed by the step, a tourist from Chenani town of Udhampur said that the new Tulip Garden at the Kud and indeed become a tourist attraction.

Speaking to ANI, Muneer Ahamed, an employee of the Floriculture department, said, “Highland Park, Kud spread over an area of 1.5 Kanal, is ready to welcome the tourists with more than 9000 colourful tulips. The Udhampur district administration was mulling to institutionalise the event on an annual basis so that more and more tourists are attracted to this scenic area of the district.”

Ahamed further added, “Tulips of five different colours have been grown here. We request tourists visiting Katra, Patnitop to visit here too.”

Further, he also mentioned that the park was established by the Department of Floriculture as they aim to promote tourism in the Union Territory and wish to divert the tourists towards the Kud area.
