May 31: Aiming to control covid spread in the nation, Japan recently announced the extension of the quarantine period from 6 to 10 days for travellers who have been to India and 5 other South Asian countries in the most recent times. This decision was taken amid a surge in the covid cases and rising concerns triggered due to that.

According to the reports, this development will have a huge affect on Japanese citizens primarily given that the government has banned the entry of foreign nationals including the ones who have resident status along with those who have been to those countries within the last two weeks; except under special circumstances.

The Japanese government also states that every traveller who has been to India, the Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal will now have to undergo a 10-days quarantine in place of the 6-days one, as per the previous order.
