A study published in the journal Body Image revealed that even men are affected other than women and teenagers by the Instagram influencers setting global benchmarks in terms of ‘ideal’ body shape, fashion and facial trends. Not particularly focused on the obsession of thinness as women tend to get via other female influencers, the study reveals that men respond to body image and fitness messages a lot as and when shared by the Instagram leaders who are followed by millions of people.<\/p>\n
The study received responses from 300 adult men from the US aged between 18 to 30. For the research, these men were shown images of bare-chested, clothed and control images, similar to those shared by the Instagram influencers. It was found that men were more satisfied at viewing the muscular images rather than viewing at fashion or scenery images.<\/p>\n
An author from the Flinders University in Australia in connection to the study said that this may mean that the men are supposedly less exposed to some of the negatives of social media but however, it does have an influence of ‘fitspiration’ and body shape. Till now, no any studies have discovered any such influence or effect on the men of the society however this new study has brought new questions into notice as it found similarities and differences between women and men.<\/p>\n
Marika Tiggemann has extensively researched the power of social media and images of body image, eating and a few other behaviours in women. The study author said that the participants had vulnerable responses to some of the social media imagery; however, she said that the results those were obtained for women cannot be generalised to men. As per the researchers, this new study shows that there is a high-level response towards fitspiration goals with the help of Instagram influencers.<\/p>\n
Isabella Anderberg, study co-author concluded by saying, “It’s important to expand this research, including on the ‘Brotox’ facial ideals set in social media which is leading to more men reportedly using skin products and even cosmetic fillers and botox to keep up to influencers.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
