Delhi to Sikkim, January: Indian airline SpiceJet has recently announced flight operations from Delhi to Pakyong airport of Sikkim starting from January 23. The budget carrier announced to connect the aerodrome from Delhi with a non-stop daily service.

SpiceJet said on Friday that the new route’s air services will be offered under Central government’s UDAN which is a regional connectivity scheme. The air travel will be operated by a Bombardier 400 aircraft.

The airlines also said that it would also be adding another frequency on the Delhi-Leh-Delhi route from Janaury 27. With this development, SpiceJet will become the first and till now the only airline to offer daily and direct air services between Delhi and the northeastern state. Besides, Pakyong airport is the only operational airport that handles commercial flight operations in Sikkim.

The Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh of SpiceJet quoted, “We are delighted to launch new flights connecting Pakyong and Leh to the national capital. Sikkim is one of the most beautiful and sought-after travel destinations in India.”

Initially, SpiceJet commenced the services to the Pakyong airport back in 2018, that is almost 2 weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the initiative along with the direct flight from Kolkata under UDAN scheme.

However, due to the low visibility and unpredictable weather, the airline temporarily discontinued the services in June 2019 till further notice.

He said that the flights from Delhi to Pakyong are facilitated to cater the growing demand of the travellers. The demand have been raised by the travellers who wish to enjoy the beautiful city located in the foothills of Himalayas.
