March 19: Rajasthan saw a significant and steady recovery for its tourist footfall since the lockdown was lifted last year in June and since people started to travel under restrictions. As recently reported, Rajasthan has recorded a drop of 71 per cent tourist footfall in 2020 as compared to 2019 owing to covid spread.

The report also suggested that during the first 2 months in 2021, the incoming visitors has also been shrunk to 49 per cent as compared to the visitors received during the same period in 2020.

Further, the reports also have it that tourism in Rajasthan was nil after April and May as the state did not receive even one visitor which is the worse as compared to the 26,113 visitors who visited the state in June.

Rajasthan was the first state in the whole country who open its monuments for its visitors from June 2. Since the opening, the tourist footfall is steadily coming back to the track as it recorded 13.59 lakh tourists in the month of December 2020.

This year, the tourist inflow in the state is strengthening further as it witnessed 16.02 lakh visitors in January and 18.55 lakh tourists in February.

Tourism Department Director Nishant Jain stated that a steady pace of growth in the tourist inflow in reassuring given the scenario the pandemic has created while disrupting the lives and businesses. He added that from registering zero visitors to reaching the stage where they are currently, they expect touching the pre-covid tourist figures soon.
