April 08: India has again decided to extend the restrictions over the number of flights to be operated to and from the United Kingdom till mid-April. Till that time, Indian airline is allowed to operate 15 flights a week and at the same time, British carriers will also be allowed to operate the same number of flights.
As per the reports, India had initially suspended the flight exchange from the United Kingdom from December 23, 2020, after witnessing the wake of another and even more infectious variant of coronavirus that was found there.
Previously, the Health Ministry alongside consultation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation decided to extend the limited air travel between India and the United Kingdom till February 14 and now, it has been further extended.
A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was issued at that time stated that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation will issue the necessary permission for the limited number of flight operations along with the guidelines of adequate spacing between flights scheduled to arrive at the Indian airports while conducting Covid-19 tests on the inbound passengers.
