January: Goa is soon going to build another tourist attraction at Aguada. Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant has announced that the renovation of historic Aguada jail will be finished by March, post which it will be made a tourist spot instead of being used for the prisoners.

The jail was used for its functions till 2015 after which it was decategorized as a jail. Located in the North Goa, the spot is a part of Aguada Fort in Sinquerim village, residing near River Mandovi. The jail premises were later handed over to Goa Tourism Development Corporation for a facelift.

Sawant revealed this to the media after discussing the refurbishment of the jail during a review meeting. He also claimed that only 10 per cent of the centuries-old jail is left to be done. Aguada jail will have a museum displaying the freedom struggle of the state against Portuguese rule. The renovated tourist spot will also focus on two special cells where freedom fighters TB Cunha and Ram Manohar were jailed during the freedom struggle against Portuguese rule.
