04 November: The Indian government earlier on Thursday has announced that the domestic airlines are free to operate 80% of pre-covid approved capacity. This decision would be taking place with immediate effect. Previously, the capacity of the operations was at 70%.

Announcing the same, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “Domestic operations recommenced with 30,000 passengers on 25 May & have now touched a high of 2.52 lakhs on 30 Nov 2020.” Till 1 December, the count of daily domestic passengers on flights has reached 252,374. This, however, is the latest highest count as the operations were unstable after being resumed on May 25 earlier this year.

After staying shut for 2 months under the government-imposed lockdown, Indian air services resumed on May 25 under several restrictions. Initially, the airlines had witnessed an intense downfall due in passenger count. But now, the air passenger traffic has gradually picked up as the citizens wish to travel back to their natives.

The airlines have faced a lot of losses given the covid-lockdown and its backdrop. However currently, a few countries have allowed the business and leisure travel which will affect the air travel footfall further. In order to facilitate the travel of the citizens, the Indian airlines have been undertaking air services under Vande Bharat mission. Also, the Indian government has also settled an air bubble arrangement with a few countries.

The air bubble arrangement is formed between two countries, under which special International passenger flights can be operated by the country’ respective airlines into each other’s territories, however, under a formed set of restrictions and regulations.
