February 08: What did not happen in the three decades, happened this time due to Covid-19 pandemic; India’s one of the most prominent and much-loved Surajkund Mela that takes place in Haryana has been called off. Surajkund Mela is a craftsmen colourful event that is basically a craftsman fair.

Even though the vaccine against the highly contagious virus has been introduced but still the government of Haryana has decided upon called the event off amid the coronavirus fears. Likewise each passing year, the craftsmen fair was scheduled from February 1 to February 15, 2021, only but it was due to covid that the plans were put to halt. With the cancellation of the colourful yearly event, the Haryana government would be facing a lot of losses as they earn a lot from the sale of tickets, advertisements and stalls as well.

Other than this, even the artisans are quite disappointed with this decision of the government. Earlier before the pandemic, these artisans used to earn Rs. 15,000 each month but due to the lockdown triggered by the pandemic stress, the times have indeed been hard for them. Therefore, events and fairs like Surajkund Mela were the only hope left for them as they earn well during these fairs.
