May 29: Shairu Gems Group, based in Surat, has become India’s first carbon-neutral diamond manufacturer after working with Natural Capital Partners in order to achieve the Carbon Neutral certification. Natural Capital Partners is carbon neutrality and climate finance business firm.
The business recently announced on Facebook that the Shairu Gems Group has ‘offset its carbon emissions by investing in emission reduction projects to support the transition to a low carbon global economy’.
“As the business’ carbon offsets have fully compensated for its emissions, the business has been declared carbon-neutral following an independent assessment.”

As reported by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website, Shairu Gems’ director Siddharth Mehta quoted, “Being an environmentally friendly business has always been a key pillar of our corporate philosophy. We built the world’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) diamond factory in 2014 and today we have achieved carbon neutrality across our global operations. I am very proud of this achievement, which has been recognised by Natural Capital Partners.”
Furthermore, Mehta told, “We increasingly see luxury consumers assessing the social and environmental impact of their purchase decisions. Our pursuit for positive climate action will only benefit our retail partners in meeting their luxury consumers’ needs.”
