May 29: Enabling the beauty and fashion sector to tentatively begin its online operations, the Karnataka local government has allowed the e-commerce businesses to deliver all goods amid ongoing lockdown in the state.

The development came after Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru continued to witness a decline in the Covid-19 cases. The local government took this vital decision to reverse its previous orders dated May 9 that restricted delivering ‘non-essential’ products by the e-commerce businesses.

The new regulations came to effect on Wednesday after e-commerce deliveries reached a standstill in few areas as the local authorities started restricting the movement of goods and citizens. The metropolitan region of Bengaluru is a large market for several e-commerce businesses.

Hence, the relaxation over the good’s delivery would prove to be a greater boon to many companies. As of now, several states are not allowing the delivery of non-essential goods. This meant and several businesses would be facing losses amid zero incomes.

While sharing about the situation, a senior e-commerce executive told ET Tech, “This is a welcome move by the state government. We are starting to see some kind of small recovery in demand in tier-1 cities as cases have begun to come down. They might have seen consumers asking for this.”
