March 18: The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has recently inaugurated the India Rough Gemstones Sourcing Show 2021 in Jaipur.

The council took the decision of inaugurating the show so that the gemstone manufacturers can have direct access to the rough stones in India. The GJEPC had launched its trade show on March 13 that focused on the rough gemstones from mines in Zambia and Mozambique. The organisation has previously announced on its website.

Aiming to give a chance to the gem and jewellery manufacturers to source the stones originating from other countries from within India, the trade show will run till April 19.

GJEPC chairman Colin Shah said, “Jaipur is the global hub for cutting and polishing of coloured gemstones.” The trade show is taking place while keeping all necessary strict health protocols and safety guidelines in place. Given the safety measures, only 20 people are allowed to enter the event hall at a time in order to maintain social distancing.

Further, he added, “It processes more than 300 different varieties of precious and semi-precious gemstones which includes emerald, tanzanite, morganite, and many other gemstones. However, being an import-oriented industry, the availability of good quality rough gemstones is a prerequisite for the sector. By organising India Rough Gemstones Sourcing Show, GJEPC is making sure that the export activities resume in full throttle as manufacturing activities are back to normal and there is the ease in Covid crisis.”
