December 24: With increasing controversies in the fashion world, another one been added in the list. Renowned French fashion giant Givenchy has been accused of stealing a hat design of a New York-based designer.

The Guardian published a report which shared the controversy that took place on the social media platform Instagram. The French luxury fashion is a brand offering haute couture clothes, accessories and perfumes.

The controversy went onto a social media accusation when the creative director of Givenchy, Matthew M Williams shared a selfie featuring a zipped black leather hat. On this Instagram post, HardWeat Style Designer K Tyson Perez commented ‘Well doesn’t this look familiar?’. However, this did not end here as Perez further went and said that this design was similar to a design which he created back in 2013.

Perez also shared a long post to justify his statement. Many among his followers, showered comments showing their unbounded support on the matter. Tyson requested the social media users to post and repost this to bring this under official notice.

His post read: “This type of appropriation & creative colonisation done by major European brands to small black designers/brands is nothing new, but the sh*t needs to end. The fact that in the height (or are we done black folks? Let me know cause ya know.. never mind) of calling out racism, police brutality and the need for an inclusion-A major brand like Givenchy (LVMH) would blatantly steal my- a small black brand’s design aesthetic & think it’s OK, is another display of white supremacy.”
